 FAMILY AND BEGINNERS

PEJIBAYE: CLASS: I

Year Round
Minimum age: 5
Length: 7 miles

A trip for families with small children. Early morning pick up by your bilingual River Guide at your San José hotel. Our van will be waiting to take us on the 1-hour drive to Orosi valley where we will stop for breakfast in a restaurant with a view of the Orosi Valley. The river runs below. After breakfast we continue on to the put-in on the Rio Pejibaye (driving time 1 ½ hours) for a day of whitewater rafting. Here our Whitewater Rafting Guides will be waiting, after a safety and orientation talk we’ll proceed down the river on a 7 mile run through Class I & II rapids Strangler figs, Kapok and Poro trees line the riverbank. There will be plenty of time to swim and ride inner tubes along the way. Enjoy a picnic lunch (Just in case we’ll bring along peanut butter and jelly for non-adventurous young palates) on the riverbank. Mid-afternoon take-out followed by an approximately 2-hour drive back to San Jose. (BL) (RG). $69/Person RESERVATIONS

PEÑAS BLANCAS: CLASS: I

Year Round
Minimum age: 5 years
Length: 5 miles

(Best if done during the Arenal portion of an extended itinerary based out of Hotel Tilajari but perfectly easy to do out of any Arenal/La Fortuna area hotel). Operated by Hotel Tilajari or Sunset Tours.

From La Fortuna, we will drive 20 minutes to the Peñas Blancas river to start the Safari Adventure. The First part of the tour begins here with a two-hour trip on a float boat (no motor). While you enjoy sounds from nature, your
guide will describe the flora and fauna of the place. It is easy to spot Howler monkeys, crocodiles, toucans, two species of sloths, and different types of local birds.

At the end of the river trip, it is time to put on your long pants and get ready to hike into the Primary Tropical Rain Forest. There you are going to find trees about 100 or more years old, also you will have the opportunity of watching the " Blue Jean Frog " (Dendrobates pumilio). Here, you can also spot one of the smallest flying mammals in Costa Rica.  Continue floating and admiring the flora and fauna for about forty minutes towards Boca Arenal. This is the town where the bus will pick us up. On the way back to La Fortuna, we invite you to admire the wonderful agriculture system of San Carlos County. Price $69/person
