One day of Wildlife, Tropical Forest and Beautiful White Sand Beaches!!

What is Carara?

Carara National Park, located 55 miles west of San Jose and near Jaco Beach, lies in the transitional zone between tropical dry forest and tropical rain forest. Here it is common to see scarlet macaws.  Bird lovers will also enjoy the sight of the pink crane and the anhinga; waterfowl including roseate spoonbills, jacanas, pied-billed grebes and Mexican tiger-bitterns. Monkeys, armadillos, peccaries, pacas, iguanas, sloth and small cats have been seen in this area.  Carara is home to parrots, parakeets, toucan, trogons and three species of monkeys. Most visitors are able to witness rare American Crocodiles, which bask along the embankments of the Tarcoles River bordering the park.

The Itinerary

We will be pick you up at your hotel in the morning and drive you  to Tarcoles.  The drive takes approximately 2.5 hours via the old Spaniard's Route, an uphill amazingly scenic route. If weather conditions are good, you can view both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans from the same spot.  At Tarcoles River, we will take  boat ride with Jungle Crocodile Safari up the Grande de Tárcoles River and into the heart of crocodile territory. This is a 2 hours adventure tour. This is a very interesting ride, great for birders and for taking close-up photos of some very large reptiles. This boat ride will take around the Carara Biological Reserve, and will give  a different look of the Reserve. Once, we have finished the boat tour, we will go to the Carara Biological Reserve for a 2-hour hike. After we finish our hike, we will visit Punta Leona Beach Resort, where lunch will be served and you will enjoy the rest of the afternoon at the beach or the Resort Private Reserve. Estimated arrival in San Jose is 6:30 pm.
